Year 13 Celebration Evening

Location: Lower School Hall
Date: Tuesday 13th May 2008

It is hoped that all Year 13 students will be at this event which will award prizes for achievement and progress, and for services to the school. There will be lots of entertainment, and the evening will be hosted by the senior students. There is limited availability for parents to attend, and it will have to be on a first come first served basis with requests for tickets made directly to the Sixth form Centre – but we do hope that some parents will join us, because we know the evening will be a good one.

Pure Potential

Location: Newcastle University
Date: Friday 27th June 2008

A great free opportunity for higher achieving students to attend a roadshow aimed at providing advice on university applications, including how to decide which course is right for you, how to write an outstanding personal statement, how to manage an interview, and how to understand student finance. In addition there will be careers’ workshops, and an opportunity to have a Newcastle University campus tour.

The Newcastle event is one of eight being held nationally, and is not about Newcastle University but about applying to any of the most competitive universities.

Students have to make their own booking on http://www.purepotential.org/events. These places would normally cost £250 per head, but they are being offered free on a first come first served basis. Students would have to make their own way to the event. Lunch is not provided.

Year 12 Students Heading for University.

Don’t forget that you have to make application for your student finance, including student loan, and that has to be done well in advance of September. Apply directly on http://www.studentfinancedirect.co.uk. Don’t delay!

Exam timetables

Everyone should have their timetable and any clashes of exams should have been dealt with. If they haven't, see the Exams' Officer. There have been a few complaints about exams on the same day. You can do up to six hours of exams on any one day before you have any chance for rearrangement.

After-school Social Events

Sixth Form students sometimes organize independent after-school social events for themselves. Parents should be aware that the school has no involvement in these events. There will always be formal notification of an event organized or hosted by the school.
