Welcome to the King Edward VI Post 16 Website

The post 16 learning experience at The King Edward VI School is a special one, which many students choose, when deciding to complete their studies here. Our Year 12 and 13 students are an integral part of our school and provide a rich contribution to school life.

Few institutions can offer students our range of academic and extra-curricular opportunities. In addition, support systems are immensely strong and ensure we know each student as an individual. We monitor student progress on a regular basis too. The King Edward VI School offers the best and our students and examination results, and high number of entries into Higher Education are a testament to this. We know all our students and want them to do well. Come and join a winning team!

Who are we?

Currently we have 450 students in our Sixth Form. Of these, 75% are likely to progress to Higher Education. Our 2006 Advanced results saw 50% of our students achieving A-B grades with a 98% overall pass rate. The vast majority of our students are taking advanced levels, though we do offer and encourage the study of applied subjects.

The Sixth Form has its own social area and study area, but it is firmly part of the whole school. Lessons are taught in classrooms throughout the school, in subject department areas, and our students are encouraged to help and support the younger year groups. We have many extra-curricular activities.

Our tutor groups are mixed Year 12 and 13 groups because we see our post 16 learning as being co-operative and progressive, and we have a dedicated team of twenty Sixth Form tutors who offer personal support and advice to students.

Students are encouraged to take responsibility for their own study time, but we will monitor progress and implement directed study where we consider it necessary. Advice about Higher Education and opportunities after leaving the school is always available.

In the Sixth Form Centre, Angela and Janet, our support staff are available to offer help throughout the day, and they are usually the first people to whom you will speak when you contact the school.

We believe we are a friendly, helpful and supportive staff. Do not hesitate to contact us.
