AdviceAnyone wishing to speak directly to a member of the Sixth Form Team can contact 01670 501520. There will be somebody available to speak to you between 8:30AM and 3:30PM. We can be contacted by email at: post16@kevi.info. Appointments should be made if you wish to come to school to speak to the Head of Sixth Form. Parents requesting specific subject information are advised to make direct contact with the appropriate subject department. Students requiring advice or assistance should speak in the first instance to their form tutor; beyond this, they should go directly to the Sixth Form Office. Education Maintenance AllowanceIf your combined household income is less than £30,000 per annum students may be eligible for an allowance of between £10 and £30 per week, with possible occasional bonuses of £100. Application forms have been handed out from school and advice is available from the Sixth Form office. We are charged with overseeing payments which can be withheld for non-attendance and non-compliance with school expectations. If you have not received an application form or require assistance, phone the Helpline: 0808 1016219Additional StudiesWe require all students in Year 12 to take General Studies. We timetable only one lesson a fortnight, and our results are excellent. In Year 13 we invite students to continue with this to A2 level through a supported self-study programme. Not all university courses accept General Studies as an entry grade, but some do and it can be helpful to put on UCAS applications. We offer Critical Thinking at AS level and encourage students to do this, particularly those who may be applying for competitive university places. The Community Sports Leadership Award is always a popular course.Learning AgreementAll students are asked to sign this. We want students to become independent learners but we acknowledge that we have to set out certain expectations. The aim is to keep all students focused on their studies and to enable all of us to monitor and support them. We track our students' progress and regularly assess their learning. Our Lead Tutors monitor students who are falling beneath their target grades.Attendance and registrationWe will closely monitor attendance, and ask that we are notified immediately if a student is going to be absent. All our data tells us that achievement is hugely affected by poor lesson attendance. We always try to contact home when we are concerned about failing attendance; in turn, we hope parents will contact us when they have concerns about attendance. We expect any student leaving the premises during the morning or afternoon sessions to sign-out from the Sixth Form Centre and sign-in when they return. Unless they have good reason, Year 12 are only allowed to leave the site at lunch-time. With parental agreement Year 13 students may leave school when a lesson is not timetabled. We ask that driving lessons are booked out of school time, and that when this is impossible they are never booked during lesson time. There is no car parking on site for students.University ApplicationsStudents begin to get advice during the first term of Year 12. Advice about the application process begins in January of Year 12. UCAS Registration takes place in June, when there will be a guidance day. Applications begin to be submitted from September of Year 13. Students will be given a timetable of important dates and will be asked to keep to deadlines. There will be advice and assistance given in the application process. Students should remember that the school must work to UCAS deadlines, and that applications take time to be processed. The formal deadline date for UCAS is 15th January of Year 13, except for students applying to Oxbridge, or students applying for Medicine, Veterinary or Dentistry when the deadline date is October 15th. Universities begin to offer places as soon as they have received applications and it is our strong recommendation to students that they complete UCAS forms by the end of November. |
